Sherwood S-7210 Receiver

This Sherwood S-7210 also arrived with the Tannoy Mercury Gold M20 and the Marantz Model 28 yesterday. This is my third Sherwood's receiver that I have come across, the other two were the S-7200 and the S7100A.

Although exactly the same frontal appearance as the Sherwood S-7200, this model was rated at 26WPC versus the S-7200 36WPC. Perhaps the difference was the Quadraphonic or Dynaquad 4 channel stereo that was being marketed at the time, really all it was was two pairs of speakers.

Anyway, the build quality of the Sherwood S-7XXX line is outstanding and the sound is really great for early solid state gear. As I have posted before on this blog, Sherwood receivers often get over looked for the Pioneer, Sansui and others which make these units incredible bargains in the vintage hifi world. Early Sherwoods are worth seeking out if the likes of Marantz, Pioneer and others become less value for the money.

Merak Mk1 Speakers

Another pair of speakers showed today, the Merak Mk1 Speakers. These are a Canadian version of a Mission 770 speaker that uses Seas drivers. The 8 inch woofer looks to have been re foamed already and the cabinets are in pretty good shape.

I have only had a small audition of these speakers and so far I am impressed with what I hear. I will run these through the solid state amplifiers including the Creek 4040s2, Yamaha CR-400 and the Sherwood S-7200.

Sherwood S-7200 Receiver

Along with the JBL L16 Decades that I got last night, this Sherwood S-7200 receiver was also available.
This one is in absolute mint condition with not a scratch in the wood veneer and all bulbs working. the second Sherwood that I have picked up in the past week, I recently came home with an 18WPC Sherwood S-7100A.

The Sherwood S-7200 is the middle of the line 32 watt per channel unit and from the limited time I have spent with the S-7100A I expect great things from this receiver.

From my research online, these early model Sherwood's rival the Marantz and Pioneer's of their day but flew way under the radar and still do.
